The Domain Registrar, (DR), is used to purchase, register a domain, and manage domain certificates. The DR also signs the certificates associated with the hostname and provides upload access for the public certificates. The DR ensures that an Identity Certificate is provided and connected to the account which purchased the domain. The Identity Certificate that is provided must have 2-Factor-Authentication enabled. Therefore, the DR ensures that access to a domain’s public certificates are cryptographically and 2FA secured. The drastic security measures are used to protect the modification of the certificates given out to clients through the DIS. The DR is an entry point for registering a domain on the network and being able to satisfy DIS requests. In summary, the Domain Registrar is the management side of the Domain Information System.
